EDWIN SWALES VC DRIVE FIASCO: TIME RATEPAYERS MADE
THEMSELVES HEARD


' If the ruling party in Ethekwini Municipality and the key official involved in road management
are content to allow the fiasco in Edwin Swales VC Dve to continue, then maybe its time they
heard directly from the Bluff's irate ratepayers,' says Bluff ward councillor Duncan Du Bois.

' Having refused to consider an investigation by the Metro's Executive Committee into the
way in which container traffic is flouting traffic laws and dictating road use in Edwin Swales
VC Dve, the only options left are protest ones, ' says Du Bois.
' This is regrettable but how else does one reckon with the rank refusal of those running this
municipality to assert responsibility over road usage as they are constitutionally obliged ?'
he asked.

' It is incumbent on Ethekwini Transport Authority to call the shots as far as the container
trucking clients of Spoornet and Propnet are concerned.

That is what should have happened in the first place particularly if a traffic impact study had
been conducted. Therefore, having failed to get the ear of the Metro mandarins with a
petition, an on-site meeting, endless correspondence and just two weeks ago with a motion
to the full Council, the time has come for long-suffering Bluff residents and commuters to
connect directly with those who have the power to intervene in Edwin Swales VC Dve.'
