| COMRADES MARATHON MEDIA RELEASE NO. 2005/28 COMRADES ENTRIES ON THE UP, SAYS AN EXCITED CHERYL WINN The field for the 2005 80th anniversary of the Comrades Marathon on June 16 from Pietermaritzburg to Durban could be bulging beyond expectation That's the firm view of Cheryl Winn, Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Comrades Marathon Association, who announced early today that more than 12,323 entries had been processed since the closing day (May 3) for the "Down Run". "It's a wonderful vibe at Comrades House at the moment. While we've already processed 12 000 plus entry forms there are thousands still waiting to be put through our computers," she said. "There are post bags still unopened - all of them are filled with entry forms from the runners which we have been receiving since Tuesday and we expect more to arrive on Monday when we open for business. "The excitement around the 80th anniversary race has just begun and with so many entries still coming in it gives us a great feeling that we will most likely exceed our targeted figure of 15 000 for the June 16 event. "Hence we've decided to work around the clock - our staff will be on duty at Comrades House at the weekend - to process the entries so that we will hopefully be able to project a final figure by early next week." More than 7 000 entries were received via the online system - the largest number ever since introduction of the system. And just over 5 000 plus entries already received either by post or hand delivered to Comrades Marathon House and Sahara Stadium Kingsmead this week have been processed. "We are on track for a great Comrades Marathon come June 16," an excited Winn said. _______________________ Statement Release on Friday, 6 May 2005 For further information Comrades Marathon Association |
