EDWIN SWALES DVE CONTAINER CONGESTION TO BE DEBATED
AT FINAL COUNCIL MEETING
The unresolved issue of container traffic adding to traffic hazards and causing delays and congestion in
Edwin Swales VC Dve
is to be debated at the final meeting on December 7 of the Ethekwini Council for 2006.
Bluff ward councillor Duncan Du Bois has lodged a notice of motion calling on the Metro's executive
Committee to: (1) investigate was no
traffic impact study done of the proliferation of container depots at the Bluff-end of Edwin Swales VC Dve; (2)
why since the matter was first raised
in June Metro Road Traffic Management has failed to deal with Spoornet, the owners of the property which
is leased to the container depots; (3)
come up with solutions to the worsening traffic problems on Edwin Swales VC Dve now that a further
container depot is scheduled to go into business.
' The aim of this motion is to compel the Council to live up to its responsibility as the custodian of the road
system and, on behalf of ratepayers and
residents, to act against those who endanger and inconvenience lives. It is unacceptable that Metro Road
Traffic Management simply sit back and do
nothing about this very serious problem,' said Cllr Du Bois.
